Freezing transition of the vortex liquid in the high temperature superconductors is examined in the realm of density functional theory of freezing. Calculations are reported for Bi2Sr2CaCu2O8+x and HgBa2CuO4+x superconductors. Results are discussed in relation to available experimental data and to other calculations of vortex lattice melting.
