Improving the Dynamic Accuracy and Energy Efficiency of a Synchronous Electric Drive by Means of Adaptive Controls

Abstract: Adaptive control algorithms have been studied to improve the dynamic indicators of the quality of transients in electric drives in the case of the nonlinear electromechanical characteristic of a permanent-magnet synchronous motor with vector control, during parameter changes, and under an external load. The improvement in the dynamic characteristics of the electric drive is combined with a reduction in overvoltages at the terminals of a synchronous electric drive, when it is running at nearly nominal speeds and loads, due to the action of adaptive control over two current channels. The reduction in overvoltage due to the adaptive algorithm only in the dynamic mode allows considering a way to increase the energy efficiency of the electric drive at maximum speeds and torques by reducing the voltage surges of the inverter. The results of computer simulation in the MATLAB/Simulink environment are presented, which indicate not only an improvement in the dynamic properties of the electric drive in terms of speed, but also a reduction in the stator voltage level during the acceleration and braking of the motor at inverter voltage and torque limits, which improves the energy efficiency of control. © 2022, Allerton Press, Inc.
