The African farmer and the challenge of food security in Africa

Majority of the sub-Saharan subsistence farmers own less than two hectares of farmland, are susceptible to climate variability, and are encumbered by unfavourable and ill-advised agriculture policies, which force them to remain as cultivators. This article examines the role of African farmers in reducing food insecurity, the challenges they face and their potential to feed the continent.
