Deviation from the Fowler-Nordheim formula for the field emission current from nanoparticles

It is shown that the field emission current from nanoparticles does not obey the Fowler-Nordheim relation due to nonlinear dependence of the potential in the region between the points of turn. The transmittance of the potential barrier of a needle cathode on a flat metal base as a function of the medium interelectrode field is calculated. The calculated field emission current is considerably lower than the experimentally observed current. The reasons of this discrepancy are discussed.
