Unstable Intertrochanteric Fracture: Do We Know Everything? A Review

There is an increase in the incidence of intertrochanteric (IT) fractures worldwide. It has high mortality and morbidity. They are divided into stable and unstable fractures. The management and outcome of unstable fractures are different from those of stable fractures. The stability depends on many factors. The methods of osteosynthesis are intramedullary devices and sliding hip screws. There is no consensus regarding the best method of fixation for this injury. In this narrative review, we are trying to perform an in-depth analysis of some of the known facts about unstable intertrochanteric fractures.
