Monolayers of live bacterial cells adsorbed on Ag/Al2O 3 film caused surface plasmon resonance angle shifts upon provision of specific gaseous nutrients, probably because of the changes in the cell volume attending the metabolic response. © 2007 Pleiades Publishing, Inc.
