摘要
A study was conducted to determine the rhizome transmission of (CMV) in ginger and turmeric. CMV-inoculated ginger and turmeric were screened for CMV in their rhizomes using the CMV coat protein (CP) gene by reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction, and the infected rhizomes were grown into seedlings. Both ginger (100%) and turmeric (100%) rhizomes were found to transmit CMV to seedlings at 90% and 100%, respectively. Hence, the crop rhizomes are revealed as reservoirs of CMV inocula and the primary source of the virus for secondary transmission. Thus, aiding the rapid spread of the virus within a geographical location. © 2023, Indian Phytopathological Society.
