Sustainable ecosystems much depend on the bioaccumulation processes. This study was dedicated to the role of water plants. Cobalt and cesium in contaminated water systems undergo concentration equilibrium in contact with water plants, occurring in nearly all water bodies. Laboratory data obtained by cultivation of B. monnieri and E. densa grown in the presence of 60Co2+ and 137Cs+ can serve as models for understanding the phytoaccumulation of radionuclides from open water ponds and water channels in the vicinity of nuclear power plants.
