摘要
Nutritional intervention is an important adjunctive therapy for patients with inflammatory bowel disease (IBD). The correction and maintenance of nutritional status, achieved by careful nutritional monitoring and intervention, should be an integral part of the multidisciplinary management of IBD throughout all stages of the disease. In acute Crohn's disease, enteral nutrition (polymeric and elemental) is an effective and safe primary therapy for many patients. Enteral diets should be considered as primary therapy in pediatric Crohn's disease patients, especially in children with poor nutritional status or growth impairment and in patients with severe drug-induced side effects. Total parenteral nutrition does not have a primary therapeutic role in IBD. Copyright © 2004 by Current Science Inc.
