Future Management of Serious Infections with QuinolonesPlace of Clinafloxacin

Although the quinolone antibacterials have been available for more than 30 years, the antibacterial spectrum of the commercially available members has changed. The use of agents such as ciprofloxacin and ofloxacin has reflected their potent anti—Gram-negative spectrum, while the advent of agents with potent activity against Gram-positive cocci in addition to good anti—Gram-negative cover, such as clinafloxacin, will herald a change in the way in which such fluoroquinolones are used. This review discusses the new uses of such a compound.
