Spatial externalities as a source of economic growth

An empirical test is conducted for a model in which spatial externalities generated by regional economic growth are considered a source of development of neighboring territories. Our estimates based on the data on Russian regions show that these externalities do affect other regions' growth rates, but the pattern of this effect in the western regions of Russia differs from the one observed in the eastern regions. © Pleiades Publishing, Ltd., 2011.
