摘要
Sloshing in road tankers that transport liquid is a phenomenon of fluid flow that occurs as a result of changes in its direction and or speed, which has effects on the behavior of the vehicle and that puts pressure on its structural components, including the baffles that are placed inside to damp the movement of the liquid. Consequently, these structural components undergo stresses that can lead to failure if certain conditions are met. This paper shows the results of a study, through numerical simulation, of the structural behavior of a road tanker used to transport liquefied petroleum gas (LPG), taking into account the sloshing and its effects, implementing a unidirectional fluid–structure interaction procedure. Four different tank configurations were considered, using cross-shaped (+) and X-shaped (X) baffles, to estimate the stresses generated in the tanker structure due to the flow dynamics that occur within the tanker for each of those settings. The results show that none of the tanker configurations studied has the best sloshing damping and the lowest level of stresses in their structure. Therefore, the choice of the appropriate configuration requires a compromise between adequate sloshing damping and an acceptable level of stresses generated in its structure.
