Value of Fax-ECG in the management of patients with arrhythmias [Wertigkeit des Fax-EKGs im management von patienten mit arrhythmien]

Background: The evaluation of arrhythmias in the surface ECG in daily practice sometimes causes diagnostic problems. Aim of the study With Fax ECG, the ECG diagnosis of medical departments, rehabilitation centers and internists in private practice was compared with the diagnosis of a specialized center. Methods The Fax ECG of 967 consecutive patients were evaluated. Results One third of Fax ECGs were transmitted without a diagnosis; 2/3 of transmitted diagnoses corresponded with the diagnosis of the specialized center. In half of all Fax ECGs, a recommendation for the further management could be given. Conclusion The organization of a Fax ECG program is useful for medical as well as economical aspects and can improve the management of patients with arrhythmias.
