A meta-analysis was conducted to evaluate the effects of hypoxia conditioning on body composition in middle-aged and older adults.Compared to normoxic equivalent, hypoxia conditioning provides greater reductions in body fat and body mass index. However, the magnitude of improvement in lean mass was not greater in hypoxic than normoxic conditions.Hypoxia conditioning of at least 60 minutes per session in moderate hypoxia (FiO2 > 15%) is a promising intervention to improve body composition in middle-aged and older adults.
