The paper examines internal and external sources for modernization of the mixed economy of the multiethnic region of the Russian South. It formulates a strategy of drawing the required funds through increased production of competitive goods and services, attraction of external investments, consolidation of budget sources, and use of resources of an ethnoeconomy. © 2009 Pleiades Publishing, Ltd.
