Causes of stagnation of transportation geography as a scientific discipline and a proposed renewed subject of investigation are discussed in the article. Based on the review of national and foreign tendencies in transportation geography, the scientific potential of transportation accessibility as the main indicator used in the discipline is analyzed. Its classification, quantitative methods of evaluation, and practice of use in regional transport planning are considered.
