Physical model of the moiré effect in cylindrical structures

The moiré effect in single-walled cylindrical objects is investigated. The theory is based on the central projection. The analytical formulas are obtained for the period of the moiré patterns at arbitrary distances, particularly for the chiral nanoparticles. The formulas are expressed in terms of the ratio of the chiral indices m/n. The theory finds confirmation in our and in independent experiments. The moiré effect in chiral nanoparticles can be modeled by macroscopic objects or planar gratings, as well as simulated by computer images. This approach can be also applied to the MWNT.
