Cross-cultural counseling in the 21st century

Historically, humans always have moved across the face of the earth, searching for adventure and fortune. With technological advancement in communication and transportation, the flow of immigrants from developing countries to developed nations has intensified. They encounter numerous problems adjusting to a host of cultural differences. Western psychotherapeutic professionals are challenged in their interventions with the increasingly large clientele. This article defines the nature and scope of the problem and suggests ways that modern counselors can integrate traditional healing styles and techniques with those they normally use. © 2001 Kluwer Academic Publishers.
