Effect of Pistachio Nano-particles on Wear Properties of Wood Apple and Coconut Shell Powder Reinforced Hybrid Composites

Wood apple shell (was) and coconut shell powder (cns) reinforced hybrid composites consisting of a varying quantities of pistachio nano-particles (0–4% [incremental of 1%]) were fabricated and eventually estimated for mechanical and sliding wear characteristics. Density of these hybrid composites was directly proportional to proportion of additives added, whereas porosity was found to be declining with the increase of pistachio nano-particles. Composites with 2% pistachio nano-particles and 15% coconut and wood apple shells powders each had superior tensile and compressive qualities than different configurations. Dry sliding wear evaluations of the composed composites were performed at normal temperature in a pin-on-disc equipment with varying speeds, distances, and different loading conditions. Pistachio nano-particles offer the eminence resistance to the wear, with a contribution ratio of 32.61%, and a hybrid composites with combination of 2 wt% pistachio nano-particles, 10 n normal load, 1.5 m/s sliding speed, and 500 m sliding distance resulted in greater wear resistance as compared to all other category of composites prepared. © 2023, The Institution of Engineers (India).
