Abstract: The dynamic characteristics of milling in different conditions are simulated for structural steel and a titanium alloy. An analytical method is proposed for determining the variable component of the cutting force; in this method, the instantaneous cut-layer thickness is determined. Distinctive features are noted in the cutting force when milling 40XH2MA steel and VT23 titanium alloy. The components of the cutting force measured by high-precision equipment are compared with the results of analytical calculation; the agreement is good. © 2022, Allerton Press, Inc.
