Distribution of residual welding stresses in thick plates with circular welds

We determine residual stresses in plates with circular welds by the method of conditional plastic strains. Numerical analysis of this problem is performed on the basis of equations of the theory of plates taking into account three-dimensional effects and equations of the plane stressed state. It is shown that the three-dimensional stressed state is formed in the vicinity of a weld even in relatively thin plates, which may result in the embrittlement of the material in this zone.
