Im Februar dieses Jahres wurde ein Update der internationalen Leitlinien zur Therapie der Sepsis durch die Surviving Sepsis Campaign (SSC) publiziert. Das Update umfasst eine Weiterentwicklung der Leitlinien aus den Jahren 2004 und 2008. Die Leitlinien sind in 3 Abschnitte gegliedert, die sepsisspezifische Therapiemaßnahmen, Empfehlungen zu allgemeinen intensivmedizinischen Maßnahmen bei Sepsis und schließlich Besonderheiten der Sepsis in der pädiatrischen Intensivmedizin detailliert darstellen. Im vorliegenden Beitrag sollen die wichtigsten Neuerungen der ersten beiden Abschnitte angesprochen werden und ggf. zur Lektüre der Leitlinien anregen.
