This paper defends the approach that organizations should not be perceived as limited to economic entities. The first question explored is whether the image of contemporary organizations is compatible with the idea of unconscious processes. The author's positive answer to this question will be followed by some further thoughts on how the relation between psychoanalysis and organization can be conceptualized. This section focuses on the question of whether - and, if so, how - psychoanalytic theories and models can be applied in an organizational context. Based on the description of a new and extended perspective on organizations, further possibilities for such an application will be elaborated. Finally, a case vignette will illustrate some of the insights that can be gained and opened up by the perspective chosen here.
