Abstract: Design principles for a smart additive manufacturing system are considered, along with its goals and technical profile. The system is based on high-speed spiral X-ray computer tomography with continuous nondestructive real-time quality control and is intended to generate products of high value and reliability. The technical profile of the smart system is developed by preliminary review of the potential applications of artificial intelligence in enhancing the quality of additive manufacturing. © 2022, Allerton Press, Inc.
