Identification of Plasma Arc Model Parameters in an Electric Arc Furnace Plant via Measurement at the Secondary Side of the Transformer

In order to describe the behavior of three-phase electric arc furnaces (EAFs), various methods have been applied to model a three-phase electric arc. Each of the models has some parameters that their exact determination is of great importance for model accuracy. In this paper, the model parameters identification is performed for EAF impedance models utilizing the measured data of the EAF transformer secondary side. The identification techniques applied in this paper are based on least squares and regression models and genetic algorithm. Moreover, the relations between the arc model parameters and arc power are discussed, and some analytical equations are presented. The validity of the analysis is also investigated through simulation. © 2021, The Institution of Engineers (India).
