Eine Studentin der Veterinärmedizin entwickelte 2 Monate nach einem geburtshilflichen Praktikum in einem Rinderstall eine tiefe Trichophytie am Mons pubis. Kulturell ließ sich ein langsam wachsender, weißer Dermatophyt nachweisen, der zunächst als Trichophyton mentagrophytes identifiziert wurde. Die aufgrund der ungewöhnlichen Lokalisation durchgeführte molekularbiologische Differenzierung mittels Sequenzierung variabler ribosomaler Genabschnitte ergab die Spezies Trichophyton verrucosum. Unter systemischer antimykotischer Therapie heilten die entzündlichen Hautveränderungen unter Zurücklassen einer vernarbenden Alopezie ab.
