We propose a method for approximate reconstruction of the profile of the refractive index from the frequency dependence of the reflection coefficient for the cases where a discontinuity of the first kind exists at the interface of the media. The method is based on using accurate analytical solutions of the inverse problem for the model reflection coefficients represented as fractional rational functions. Numerical results of using the proposed method to process the plots of the real and imaginary parts of the reflection coefficient in the specified frequency range are presented.
