This paper presents a novel technique for determining the mode content in a multimode waveguide from the radiation pattern measurements. The technique employs the Genetic Algorithm (GA) for determining the mode content in the waveguide from the measured pattern and a numerical method for simulating radiation patterns for the modes propagating in the waveguide. By numerical experiments, we validate the feasibility and effectiveness of the proposed technique, and illustrate its sensitivity to the number of observation points and random noise in the measurement.
