Foliar uptake and translocation of stable Cs and I in radish plants

We studied the foliar uptake of Cs and I in radish plants by applying droplets of a solution of Cs (as CsCl or CsNO3) or I (as NaI or NaIO3) on upper leaf surfaces. Approximately 60 to 80 % of Cs applied as CsCl was absorbed regardless of the initial concentration of CsCl solution. The foliar uptake of Cs applied as CsNO3 decreased with increasing CsNO3 concentration in the solution. The foliar uptake of I was independent of I concentration in the applied solution. Approximately 80 % of applied I− was absorbed, whereas 90 % of applied IO3− remained on the leaf surface.
