Stevenson's classic yarn, Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, is explored as a vivid, insightful story of addiction. In spite of clinical temptations to chase “deeper” issues connected with the “dark side,” this article suggests that pastoral counselors and psychotherapists need to first ask whether a client's “shadow” may be chemically induced.
