摘要
An approach to creating methods for evaluating the quality of bearing steels aimed at the consumer is presented. The most important characteristics that determine bearing steel machinability and operating properties of objects made from them are determined by rolled structure homogeneity. Consumer requirements for products made of bearing steel grades focus primarily on steel purity with respect to nonmetallic inclusions and carbide inhomogeneity. An example of a technique for sampling and evaluation of carbide inhomogeneity developed for quality control of bearing steel grades based on the German technical rule SEP 1520 for Timken is provided. Specifications of GOST 801 and SEP 1520 are compared in relation to the evaluation of the most significant bearing steel metallographic characteristics that affect subsequent bearing operation. The advantages of using the scales of the technical regulation SEP 1520 compared with GOST 801 scales are demonstrated.
