The old meets the new: Religion and assisted reproductive technologies

Wendy Chavkin argues that in order to understand Assisted Reproductive Technologies (ARTS) as an important public health and social phenomenon, we need to situate them in some of the context of broad socio-political developments. She examines the responses of different religions to ARTS in today's world, suggesting that religious influence on governmental policy towards gender roles, work and family, ARTS reflects a major contest over the secular nature of the state.
