Epidemiology of cervical cancer

Cervical cancer is the fourth most common cancer in women worldwide and the seventh most common cancer overall. The World Health Organization (WHO) estimated that there were 528,000 new cases of invasive cervical cancer and 260,000 deaths in 2012. Whereas in Germany cervical cancer is only the twelfth most common cancer, in many less developed countries it is still the leading cause for cancer deaths in women.
