摘要
The article explores the circumstances of Hamlet's birth on the German stage in Hamburg in 1776. Schröder's mise-en-scene marks the prevalent cognitive dissonance thwarting the claims of a rigorous Enlightenment as well as a cultural dissonance negotiating between the literary representation, epitomized by Hamlet, and the older corporeal tradition of acting, embodied by the Ghost.
