On mechanism of population transfer to ungerade ion-pair states of I2 molecule

We discuss the population transfer to the D 0u+ and F 0u+ ungerade ion-pair states of the I2 molecule upon optical excitation of the E0g+ and f 0g+ gerade states by the optical-optical double resonance method. This effect is explained by multiphoton ionization of iodine vapor and subsequent collisions with photoelectrons.
