Influence of Laser Modification of Nitride Ceramics Surface Layer on the Milling Cutters Reliability During the Finishing of Hardened Steel Workpieces

摘要
The influence of pulsed laser modification of nitride ceramics surface layer on the milling cutters reliability during finishing of hardened steel workpieces has been revealed. An increase in the milling cutters reliability with modified cutting inserts has been related to the removal of a defective layer formed during grinding and the formation of a new surface layer under pulsed laser action, which has a low degree of defect and increased resistance to crack growth.
