摘要
Applicability of packing concept-based mix proportioning techniques for PCM-admixed concrete mixes is evaluated in the present study. The mix proportioning technique presented in the study optimizes the workability of concrete mixes while meeting the nominal compressive strength and thermal performance requirements. Thermal and mechanical performances of microencapsulated PCM-admixed concrete and mortar mixes, prepared with PCM having high fusion temperature, are evaluated under tropical climatic conditions. Calorimetric analyses, thermal testing of slabs, flow table tests and uniaxial compressive strength tests were used to evaluate the above performances. A reduction in the steady-state temperatures up to 2.5 – 3 ∘ C is observed with PCM incorporation. Uniaxial compressive strength of PCM-admixed concrete is good enough to be used as masonry blocks, although it is insufficient for it to be used as structural grade concrete. The suggested mix proportioning methodology provides insights into experimental techniques that can be used to tailor PCM-admixed concrete mixes for the desired workability. © 2021, The Institution of Engineers (India).
