摘要
Intestinal parasites colonize patients worldwide. Due to modern travel, emigration, and exotic cuisines, parasitic infections can present in any locale. Some cause severe disease, while others are usually self-limited or asymptomatic. Patients with diarrhea should have at least three stool specimens, gathered on separate days, checked for ova and parasites. The medical laboratory must be alerted for specific concerns, because the method of assay differs among various parasites. Stool antigen and blood serology tests increase diagnostic sensitivity. Physicians need to consider, recognize, and know how to treat intestinal parasitosis.
