Etravirine: A guide to its use in treatment-experienced adults with HIV-1 infection

Etravirine (Intelence®), an oral next-generation non-nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitor, provides a valuable option for the treatment of treatment-experienced adults with HIV-1 infection when used in combination with other antiretroviral agents. In clinical trials in this difficult-to-treat patient population, the addition of etravirine to an optimized background therapy regimen improved virological and immunological responses and other outcomes, and had an acceptable tolerability profile. © 2013 Springer International Publishing Switzerland.
