摘要
This paper presents the effects of process parameters like cutting speed, feed rate and different cooling conditions (i.e. dry, wet and liquid nitrogen used as a coolant) on tool wear (crater and flank wear) in machining of EN24 alloy steel using uncoated tungsten carbide insert tool. Experiments were carried out as per Taguchi’s L9 orthogonal array and further statistical analysis of variation (ANOVA) was used to study the effect of process parameters on responses i.e. crater wear and flank wear, based on their P value and F-value at 95 % confidence level. Overall, cryogenic cooling provides improved tool life leading to extended product life and performance. Mathematical models for crater and flank wear are found to be statistically significant. © 2015, The Institution of Engineers (India).
