Abstract: One of the most important characteristics of a layered composite is the transversal elasticity modulus. For its calculation, the mixture formula is widely used now. A number of experiments have demonstrated that, in some cases, the mixture formula gives essentially underestimated results for the transversal elasticity modulus. Based on the contact-layer model, the solution explaining the synergism of elastic properties by the appearing essentially nonuniform stressed state was found for this problem in this paper. It follows from the found solution that the average transversal joint strength found from experiment may be ambiguous, as the destruction of a model may occur due to tangent stresses before attaining the transversal strength. © 2022, Pleiades Publishing, Ltd.
