High surface ozone episodes at Maitri in Antarctica

The contribution of Stratosphere Troposphere Exchange (STE) leading to high surface ozone levels at the Indian Antarctic station Maitri has been investigated in this paper over a period of 10 years from 1998 to 2007. It has been observed that out of 120 case studies covered in this paper, higher than normal surface ozone episodes have occurred on 50 (41.67 %) occasions. Out of these 50 occasions, high surface ozone due to STE occurred on 18 occasions (7 during summer and 11 during winter). The overall contribution of STE towards high surface ozone episodes was 15 % in this study.
