Liver resection can be performed with different surgical approaches whether abdominal or combined thoracoabdominal. This work focuses on the surgical technique for the thoracoabdominal approach in liver surgery, describing the technique, the rationale, and making a review of the current literature on such subject. © 2013 Springer-Verlag Italia.
