Effect of surface orientation of CdxHg1−xTe crystals on the properties of surface anodic oxides

Electron spectroscopy for chemical analysis was used to study the effect of surface orientation of CdxHg1−xTe crystals (x=0.19) on the composition of anodic oxide. It is found that anodic oxide compositions on the (111) and (100) crystal surfaces are identical and change gradually from the substrate to the outer surface, whereas the oxide on the (110) surface contains an interlayer of unoxidized Te. This result correlates with some properties known for CdxHg1−xTe oxides.
