This paper is dedicated to the eightieth, birthday of G. V. Samsonov. We consider the major results of his scientific activity and organizational efforts in the sciences, and discuss his contacts with other scientists. We point out that the number of citations to his work each year is very high, and this citation rate has not been diminishing over the past 20 years. We also note the rise in the general status of materials science.
