Period-generating different modulation formats are presented using an electro-absorption modulator (EAM). The configuration is based on a Sagnac loop interferometer containing an EAM, a polarization controller and a time delay line. Different modulation formats are obtained by modulating the clockwise and counterclockwise propagating waves inside the Sagnac loop. The theoretical analysis is also obtained. Measured results demonstrate period-generating different modulation format by tuning the time delay line.
