An axisymmetric laminar boundary-layer slip flow of a viscous incompressible rarefied gas in a convectively heated vertical cylinder in the presence of thermal radiation is analyzed. The governing equations in cylindrical coordinates are transformed into ordinary differential equations by similarity transformation. These transformed equations are then solved numerically, using the fourth order Runge–Kutta method with shooting technique. The effects of the pertinent parameters on the gas velocity, temperature, as well as on the shear stress and heat transfer rate at the cylinder surface, are estimated. © 2017 The Author(s).
