摘要
A plot involving life forms based on silicon is the staple of many science-fiction television series and novels. The idea of this being a reality has piqued the interest of scientists to explore whether silicon-based life may actually exist in extraterrestrial environments. On earth, we know that carbon is the main building block of life, however what if life outside of our terrestrial world did not depend on carbon-based biomolecules? In this communication, the possibilities of extraterrestrial life being based on silicon will be discussed.
