An Epistemological Perspective for Studying Socio-Cultural Formations

This article submits two proposals: the concept of socio-cultural formations to study local communities and an epistemological proposal to approach these formations. These ideas were elaborated starting from a qualitative investigation that involved the review, classification, analysis and interpretation of experts in socio-cultural matters, as well as field observation developed in diverse communities of the Zulia region of Venezuela. Final reflections from the study evidenced the need to achieve a constructive approach to local communities that considers the particular and the singular aspects of each community without disconnecting it from more global social contexts.
