Historical and recent trends in the avifauna of Saskatchewan's Prairie Ecozone

Saskatchewan's prairies have a remarkably varied avifauna for a landlocked, high-latitude jurisdiction. This avifauna, however, has changed considerably over the last 150 years. Most of this change is due to direct and indirect effects of European settlement. Species whose populations have undergone marked changes are listed by trend patterns over long-term (1850-2000) and recent (19682000) periods. Where possible, the major factors that have influenced these trends are described.
